Trump official skewered amid bizarre claim Canada 'doesn't have a military'

Sean Duffy tells daughter she can't go to Harvard because they 'corrupt …

Transport secretary Sean Duffy tried to weigh in on the trade dispute between the US and Canada and it didn’t end well.

US president Donald Trump is back to using tariffs as a political and economic weapon after Canada rejected a US trade deal. One of the alleged reasons the trade talks collapsed was the US’s insistence that Canada make changes to its use of the French language.

Now talks have ended without success, Trump has chosen to hit Canada with 50 per cent tariffs that will apply to a wide range of goods. Canadian prime minister Mark Carney has suggested Canada will impose reciprocal tariffs on the US, matching theirs “dollar for dollar”.

Speaking on Fox News, US transport secretary Duffy gave his thoughts on the matter, leaving people slightly baffled by what he came out with.

“It’s a country that doesn’t have a military,” Duffy said. “They have record high euthanasia rates. And so to think that they’re gonna go to war with Donald Trump and actually win that war with the US, I think it’s foolish on their part.”

Elsewhere, Duffy claimed: “The fact we provide their security for them, and they take advantage of us? ... I think you’re going to see Mark Carney come to the table very very quickly, because it’s going to be devastating for his country.”

To Duffy’s claim Canada has no military, one person responded: “Mr Secretary, please stop embarrassing us. I served in Kandahar Afghanistan in 2009-2010 alongside Canadian Soldiers. They were skilled, courageous, and effective. We were lucky to be on the same side with them.”

Another said: “I served side by side with Canadians when I was deployed to the Middle East.

“Canadians actually have an incredibly competent and well trained military, contrary to what Sean Duffy might believe.

“This entire administration is made up of pure buffoonery.”

Someone else wrote: “Absolutely shameful comments from [Duffy]. He has never served a day. The Canadians have been allies and sent their troops to Afghanistan to fight and die by our sides. While Sean Duffy was getting drunk on reality TV Canadian service members were in the fight with us. He owes them an apology but he’s too arrogant to ever feel shame.”

Another pointed out: “You would think the guy responsible for the aviation sector might be aware that we have a joint military command (US-Canada) that defends our combined air space.

“But you would be wrong.”

“So, US policy is to be ‘devastating’ to Canada until we break them and do what we want. It will take generations to recover from this madness,” another argued.

Someone else said: “I’m so tired of the arrogance of these cabinet buffoons. I’m sure the rest of the world is as well.”
