After being told he could no longer discuss singer Demi Lovato’s announcement that they are non-binary, one radio DJ suddenly stormed off air.

On Wednesday morning, Matt Siegel, longtime Boston DJ and host of “Matty in the Morning” on Kiss 108 FM, abruptly ended his show after producers informed him he could no longer talk about Lovato announcing they were changing their pronouns.

Siegel went off on a long rant, explaining how he had been contacted by his boss about the issue, before addressing his co-hosts and saying: “Bill and Lisa and Bex and Dom, I’m sorry for putting you in this position,. But I was told by my boss I cannot talk about what I want to talk about.

“By the way, it’s a joke—the whole binary thing. I don’t care what Demi Lovato does but now we need to worry about you might offend someone.

“So basically I offended right-wing people and now I offended left-wing people. Basically what they want me to do is you know a lightweight show.”

He then boasted: “I am the biggest of all time and they said ‘shut up Matt, stop talking’.

“Well, I hope you’re happy because I just stopped talking. Matty out.”

He left and did not return for the final 40 minutes of his show.

He later told Boston.com that he expects to return to the show.

Comedian Lenny Clarke, a longtime friend and frequent guest of the show, said: “If someone can make us laugh and cheer us up in the morning, all the better. And I really, sincerely hope that Matty Siegel is back.”

Siegel has hosted the show since 1981, which celebrated its 40th year on the air this January. It is the station’s highest-rated show and leading FM morning show in Boston.
