Comedian Jimmy Kimmel labelled ‘tone deaf’ over ‘privileged’ comment about the end of Trump’s presidency
Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel has sparked backlash on social media after he was accused of sharing a ‘tone deaf’ post which celebrated the end of Donald Trump's presidency.

The comedian was told to “read the room” following his comment: "It feels good to only have to worry about a deadly pandemic now."

Some Twitter users thought he was implying that there aren’t any other big problems facing the country now the former president is out of office, with some raising economic inequality, racial injustice and the climate crisis as key ongoing concerns.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were sworn in at the inauguration last week.

This followed Trump disputing the results of the 2020 election, without evidence, for months.

The comedian previously mocked the former president multiple times on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, sharing parody videos and deepfakes of Trump throwing tantrums in the White House.

But many criticised the late-night host’s latest comment.

Some pointed out his privilege to make such a remark.

However, others defended Kimmel’s tweet, which was liked by almost 150,000 users.

Trump was the first president to not win re-election since George HW Bush, who lost to Bill Clinton in 1992.
