Following the release of Netflix’s The Crown, people are discussing whether it’s acceptable to find Gillian Anderson’s portrayal of Margaret Thatcher 'sexy' and 'relatable'.

Yes, you read that right.

There’s seriously a debate about Sexy Margaret Thatcher.

In the new series, there are also moments which make you feel sorry for the extremely controversial former prime minister.

But some people are adamant to remind viewers of the harmful things Thatcher did as prime minister.

One user shared a clip of Thatcher defending Section 28 – a law which banned the "promotion of homosexuality" in schools.

He wrote: "While you're all stanning 'Sexy Maggie' here's a reminder of how toxic she was."

Others also argued that we shouldn't be idealising her.

They were keen to ensure that people weren't blinded by Anderson's convincing performance.

Anderson's portrayal of Thatcher has been widely praised. So much so that she's already being tipped for awards.

Evidently, she's prompted people to do a lot of soul-searching.
