Have an opinion about anything else, say Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez’s controversial Barcelona penalty on Sunday?

Sit down. That was the sad message given to BT Sport presenter Lynsey Hipgrave, when she received a barrage of abuse on twitter for calling the penalty “disrespectful” towards their opponents Celta Vigo.

Just a very small taster of what we have to put up with. The crime was being a woman and expressing an opinion.

Still a long way to go.

The UK is often touted as a bastion for social progress but quite frankly, her one-sentence analysis confirms that we do indeed have a long way to go.
