The Sons of Anarchy cast is reuniting for a new series – but there's a twist

FX

Good news for Sons of Anarchy fans: the gang is getting back together for a brand-new limited series.

The popular Kurt Sutter drama ran from 2008 to 2014, following Charlie Hunnam's Jax Teller at the centre of the story. Now, Hunnam is developing Legends, a new series about the cast of Sons of Anarchy.

The spin-off is set to bring back the show's main stars, including Hunnam, Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates, and Theo Rossi.

However, there's a twist: they won't be reprising their original roles. Instead, they'll play fictionalised versions of themselves.

“When the cast of Sons of Anarchy reunites at a fan convention after more than a decade, the line between life and art blurs as the fractured brotherhood finds itself up against a real-world threat more dangerous than anything they ever faced in their show," the official description reads.

It didn't take long for fans to react on X/Twitter, with one person writing: "They probably wanted to work together again but couldn’t do a Sons of Anarchy reboot because almost every character is dead at the end of the show and that’s how we got this plot."

Another joked: "Oh god damnit so that’s why they were at that convention and all being weird!"

Sons of Anarchy creator Sutter has confirmed that he won't be involved in Legends "at all, nor should I be".

“It has nothing to do with the characters I created or the mythology. It is really about the show and the legacy of the show, and quite frankly, there are thousands of people who are responsible for that legacy," he shared in an Instagram video.

“I gave Charlie my full blessing. wish nothing but the best for him in this project. My wife is in the project," he added.
