A clip of the Bryant Gumbel and his colleagues on The Today Show discussing the internet in 1994 has gone viral.

The clip features Gumbel, Elizabeth Vargas and Katie Couric debating the pronunciation of “@” before Gumbel utters the immortal words:

What is internet, anyway?

It’s remarkable to think that something so ubiquitous could once have been obscure enough to seem niche.
