Video of man locking his head in cage in attempt to stop smoking resurfaces

Smoking, as we all know, is a) addictive and b) unhealthy. But it’s really not normal to put your head in a cage to kick the habit.

That’s what Ibrahim Yücel from Turkey did, taking the extreme measure after smoking two packets of cigarettes every single day for over two decades.

In video posted in 2013, which resurfaced on Reddit recently, he walked around his local village wearing the contraption - as you do.

He was moved to stop smoking after his father sadly died from lung cancer and - inspired by motorcycle helmets - he used copper wire to fashion the cage, and locked it up and gave his family the key. It was reported that he could eat crackers and sip on water through the cage but had to be unlocked to have proper meals.

Commenting on pictures of the cage on Reddit, someone said: “Extreme problems require extreme actions.”

While another added: “I have to rub my eyes and scratch the side of my nose just looking at this.”

According to the International Business Times his previous attempts to kick the habit had always failed which was why his wife was supporting him - despite being initially embarrassed by the prospect.

A third commented: “This is just about what it takes. I smoked for 7 years and quitting was one of the hardest things I’d ever done in my life. Been nicotine free for just over three years now!”

Someone else commented: “The first time I quit was easy and I lasted 8 years but f*** me I’ve tried to quit like 5 times since and I’ve failed every time.

“I get gnarly night sweats and have fantasies about caving people's heads in over the slightest thing every time I try.”

Unfortunately, there have not been further updates since the video was released and so viewers are pretty in the dark about whether he was successful or not in his bid to stop.

We can only wish him well.
