People are being asked to give a prison the 'Boaty McBoatface' treatment, which sounds like a terrible idea

The public has been invited to pick the new name for a prison in Northamptonshire because apparently we have all learned nothing from the Boaty McBoatface debacle.

The Ministry of Justice has asked members of the public to come up with a name for a new £235m "mega prison". It began construction in September so time is on their side.

The government has suggested the suggestions ought to “embrace the history and culture of Wellingborough” presumably in a bid to avoid a repeat of the boat fiasco.

However, all is not what it seems,

In a further effort to destroy our fun, the potential names will be narrowed down to a shortlist before a panel of local representatives decides on the winner.

After that, the name will be agreed by The Queen, the Prisons Minister Lucy Frazer and Justice Secretary Robert Buckland thus allowing little opportunity for fun and games.
