The Times diary today tells a rather amusing story of four Treasury civil servants who were overheard in a pub in Westminster.
The anecdote goes that they were discussing names for a new departmental YouTube channel.
Due to the red ministerial boxes, used to transport papers from place to place, most famously the Budget Box, one mandarin suggested “Red Box”.
However, “Red Box” is already a political/polling/data section of the Times, which moved the conversation to other suggestions.
One suggested “Red Tube”, which many believed was a good suggestion.
Another raised his hand, as The Times describes:
'Er, guys,' he said. 'I don't think we should call it that. It's the name, er, of a pornographic website. So I hear.'
What a time to be alive.
