Biden, a Catholic, was in Italy for the G20 summit before Cop26. While there, he enjoyed a “very warm” meeting with the pontiff that lasted for an hour and a quarter.

A White House official said there was “laughter and clear rapport” between Biden and Pope Francis.
In comparison, Trump’s meeting with the pontiff only lasted for 30 minutes. Before they even met in 2017, there was a bit of tension between the two leaders.
In 2016, Pope Francis blasted Trump’s US-Mexico wall, saying: “A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian.”
Trump fired back saying that if the Vatican were to be attacked by ISIS, “the pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been president because this would not have happened.”
Trump also called it “disgraceful” for a religious leader “to question a person’s faith”.
He also accused the Mexican government of using the Argentine pontiff as a “pawn”.

After pictures emerged of a rather awkward-looking meeting between Pope Francis and Trump, the former president later hailed the meeting as “fantastic”.
