August 2017 saw hundreds of far right white supremacists descended onto the town of Charlottesville, Virginia.

The ugly scenes quickly turned towards violence, and one anti-fascist demonstrator was killed when a car driven by a white supremacists rammed into a group of counter protestors.

The violence and the strong presence of Nazi symbols and gestures shocked the American public.

However, when President Trump was called on to condemn the fascists, he failed to do so.

Instead he repeatedly chose to blame "many sides" for the incidents that occurred that weekend.

His comments provoked outrage at the time and remains a subject that inspires heated reactions.

The most recent example of which comes from the 2018 Miss America pageant.

When Miss Texas, Margana Wood, was called to the stage to answer a question from the panel she gave a great and brutally honest response.

Wood's defiant stance and criticism of Trump went down well on Twitter.

She was the only contestant in the competition to comment on Mr. Trump.

Eventually winner, Miss South Dakota, Cara Mund, also called out the POTUS in regards to his denial of climate change and the withdrawal of America from the Paris accord.

The Washington Post quote her as saying:

It’s a bad decision.

There is evidence that climate change is existing and we need to be at that table.

She added:

I wasn’t really afraid if my opinion wasn’t the opinion of my judges.

Miss America needs to have an opinion and she needs to know what’s happening in the current climate.

He is our president and we need to support him.

I may not agree with all of his opinions, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to support the President.

Curiously, Trump was previously involved with the American pageant industry but not Miss America.

The tycoon used to own the Miss Universe Organization which ran the similarly titled Miss USA as well as Miss Teen USA.

He owned the company for 19 years before selling it in 2015.
