The state of the UK's thought process last night, according to our Google searches

People have been analysing Google trends from last night, as the fate of the UK outside the European Union became increasingly clear.

Google Trends is wonderful/terrifying service that allows you to compare search terms in google in a region and a period of time of your choosing.

Around 4 am, as the picture became clearer and the Brexit v was out in front, some Brits took to their trusted expert, Google.co.uk, to find out what this was all about.

At just this time there was a spike in the number of people searching for "What happens if we leave the EU?" (blue). Once people had the answer to this, a second thought occurred to them.

Wait. So was all that to do with Brexit? No. That sounded nice when Boris Johnson described it. I'll just check to make sure.

Then, as the early hours slipped into dawn, plans of action were being concocted. By noon on Friday this cunning idea was flying from house to house.

Needless to say a lot people have some hard thinking to do.
