This tweet perfectly sums up the problem with Donald Trump’s wages

Donald Trump just announced that he has donated his first quarter salary to the National Park Service.

All US presidents are entitled to a $400,000 salary, though Trump had previously stated before his election that he would not "take even one dollar" of it.

Pleasingly, Sean Spicer confirmed that Mr Trump has followed through on his promise:

And while $78,333 (roughly £62,900) is a generous amount of money to donate, one person has highlighted a rather huge problem with the sentiment.

Charles, a columnist for The New York Times points out:

As he traipses off each weekend to play golf costing taxpayer $3 mil a pop.

Donald Trump has already gone golfing 14 times in the 10 weeks since his inauguration.

This costs the taxpayer $3million per trip and that is seriously staring to add up.

In February alone, Trump's vacations cost taxpayers $11.3million - almost as much as Obama's cost in an entire year.

So his $78k salary donation might not seem so generous after all.
