Donald Trump accidentally tagged the wrong Emmanuel Macron account whilst praising the French president after meeting with him during the run up to the G7 Summit.

The US president took to tweeted: “Just had lunch with French President @EmanuelMacrone. Many good things are happening for both of our countries. Big weekend with other world leaders!”

However, the account Trump linked to belongs to a parody account and not his French counterpart.

Awkward.

The tweet quickly disappeared from his Twitter timeline, so it is likely Trump or one of his staff quickly noticed his error and deleted the tweet.

He later tweeted the actual French president.France and President:

@EmmanuelMacron have done a really great job thus far with a very important G-7. Lunch with Emmanuel was the best meeting we have yet had. Likewise, evening meeting with World Leaders went very well. Progress being made!

Trump held a private lunch with Macron before the start of the Group of Seven summit in the resort town of Biarritz.

Macron is hosting the summit, said the leaders are discussing “a lot of crisis” around the world, including about Libya, Iran and Russia, as well as trade policy and climate change.

Trump went on to say the pair had “a lot in common” and spoke of a “special relationship.”

He added: ‘We’ll accomplish a lot this weekend and I look forward to it.”
