Joe Biden 2020: How the internet is reacting to Barack Obama's former vice president entering the election race

The former vice president to Barack Obama, Joe Biden, has today announced that he will be running for president in 2020.

In a powerful campaign launch video, the 76-year-old lambasted president Trump for his comments following the riots in Charlottesville, Virginia, in August 2017, and warns that if Trump is allowed another four years in the White House he will "forever and fundamentally alter the character of this nation".

Given his popularity during the Obama administration, Biden is likely to be a strong front running for the Democratic nomination, which is currently being led by the likes of Bernie Sanders, Beto O'Rourke and Pete Buttigieg.

At least 20 Democrats have already announced their intention to run for president, making this one of the most hotly contested and diverse presidential campaigns that the United States has ever seen.

Biden is likely to be that last major name to announce his candidacy and his announcement has been greeted positively online.

However, not everyone was putting their full weight behind him.

What will his campaign slogan be?

Fox News marked the announcement by running a compilation of the various gaffes and controversial comments that Biden made during his time as vice president.
