US would ‘already have modified vaccines’ for Covid variants if Trump was still president, former aide claims

According to one of his former aides, if Donald Trump had remained president, the US would “already have modified vaccines” for new strains of the coronavirus – such as the one named Omicron by the World Health Organisation on Friday.

In comments which completely underestimate how long it takes for scientists to research and tweak a vaccine, ex-senior Trump adviser Stephen Miller told Fox News: “If President Trump was still in office, by the way, we’d already have modified vaccines to deal with the new variants, which is a great point.”

“President Trump brought us vaccines in record times, which he made voluntarily mandatory, and he had uptakes too,” he added.

He also saw 400,000 deaths from coronavirus under his administration, Steve, but you probably don’t want to talk about that.

While Trump’s supporters continue to indulge themselves in fantasies, many Twitter users chose to roast Miller for his “unbelievably irresponsible” hypothesis:

Others pointed out that staunch Trump supporters aren’t exactly the kind of people you’d expect to see at the front of the queue for a Covid vaccine:

Fortunately, we don’t have to live in a parallel universe where Trump secured a second term. Thank God.
