Todd Blanche has been appointed acting Attorney General after US President Donald Trump fired Pam Bondi - but who is he exactly?

Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump said: "Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year.

"We love Pam and she will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future."

Bondi said she will transition the role to Blanche through the next month and added: "I remain eternally grateful for the trust that President Trump placed in me to Make America Safe Again."

So who is Todd Blanche?

Before being promoted to acting Attorney General, Todd Blanche was the Deputy Attorney General after being confirmed by the Senate in March 2025. He's an American attorney and former prosecutor.

Blanche was Trump's former criminal defence attorney and has represented the US President in a number of cases, including the classified documents case, the election interference case (in relation to the US Capitol riots) and the most recent hush money case.

He's also represented a number of figures associated with Trump in court over the years.

In relation to the Epstein files, Blanche oversaw the release of "more than three million pages" and interviewed Jeffrey Epstein's convicted co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell in 2025.

Trump also dismissed Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden and named Blanche as her acting successor but this was disputed by the staff of the Library of Congress who questioned Trump's authority to do this without consent of the Senate. Library of Congress staff said Principal Deputy Librarian Robert Newlen was the next lawful successor.

Blanche is very active on social media and often agrees with Trump's stances.
