A football fan in the Netherlands has been called a “hero” after he was filmed effortlessly carrying 48 beers all at once in front of a cheering stand.

23-year-old Christiaan Roetgering was spotted carrying the drinks, which were stacked on trays, during Sunday’s Eredivisie game between FC Twente and Willem II at the De Grolsch Veste - a stadium conveniently sponsored by the local Grolsch brewery.

Pictures and video of Roetgering carrying the pints without spilling a drop soon went viral with people amazed at his incredible achievement, especially with so many people watching to see if he would slip up.

Speaking about his viral success, Roetgering was quoted by news.com.au as saying: “I always go to the game with a group of friends, and each time one of us has the job of getting the beers in.

“This time it was my turn, and I didn’t fancy having to keep going back and forth to the bar.

“So I decided to get everything in one visit.

“I had to carry the trays through a passageway and up some stairs, but it all went fine.

“But it’s not a record – my friend Jochen has managed in the past to carry 50 beers in one go.

“I must have had 300 friend requests on Instagram. I was watching the highlights on TV on Sunday, and my phone just exploded.”

First things first, we have to applaud Roetgering for carrying all of those pints but surely he and his friends could have devised a better system than making one man get in a 48 drink round? Must have cost a fortune.

Sadly for Roetgering, this was possibly the only thing he had to cheer about on Sunday as Twente (once managed by former England man Steve McClaren) blew an early lead to end up drawing 1-1 and even had a man sent off.
