Dumbledore and Gandalf got married in a ceremony that can only be described as magical

"Do you, Gandalf, take Albus to be your lawfully wedded wizard?" is not a question you hear every day.

But this week a gay rights group staged a wedding between two of the most famous characters and gay icons in literature - right across from the headquarters of the notoriously homophobic Westboro Baptist Church.

Nonprofit group Planting Peace got the idea to host the wedding at their rainbow coloured house opposite the church in Kansas after a Twitter spat erupted between JK Rowling and WBC during Ireland's gay marriage referendum.

Rowling's playful suggestion was met with trolling from WBC, but the Harry Potter author spared no mercy in her reply, saying that the "sheer awesomeness of such a union... would blow your tiny bigoted minds".

Once the gauntlet had been thrown, Planting Peace decided to take the battle right to WBC's front doorstep.

More than 250 people showed up to the adorkable ceremony on Sunday, which only attracted a handful of WBC protesters, according to local media. The wedding party arrived to the strains of a harp:
