British comedian, Lenny Henry just introduced himself at a conference as 'Justin Trudeau', a clear nod to the pictures and footage that have recently emerged of the Canadian prime minister in blackface.
Henry was speaking at a Royal Television Society event in Cambridge, alongside Chairwoman of MediaCom, UK and Ireland, Karen Blackett.
Introducing himself, the comedian reportedly said:
Hello, I’m Justin Trudeau.
Â
It goes without saying that other social media users found the gag rather hilarious.
Â
The comments were made by Henry in response to images of Trudeau that emerged on Wednesday showing him dressed in 'blackface' makeup at a 2001 'Arabian Nights' costume party.
Speaking to reporters on the campaign trail ahead of an election next month, Mr Trudeau said:
I should have known better then, but I didn’t, and I am deeply sorry for it.
I’m going to ask Canadians to forgive me for what I did.
I shouldn’t have done that. I take responsibility for it. It was a dumb thing to do.
Further pictures and video have surfaced of Trudeau wearing blackface, which has lead to the 47-year-old declining to confirm just how many times he has worn the problematic face paint.
