President of the United States Donald Trump, in his first military endeavour as leader of the country, ordered a missile strike on a Syrian base following a suspected Sarin chemical attack on civilians which left over 80 people dead.

He said:

Tonight I ordered a targeted, military strike on the airfield in Syria from where the chemical attack was launched.

The action escalated tensions between Russia, a long-standing supporter of the Assad regime, and the US. In response, the former deployed a warship armed with cruise missiles to the Syrian coast.

Trump's administration has been a near constant source of criticism, with many perceiving top jobs going being gifted to individuals by relation to the First Family rather than by political skill.

Among those appointments is Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner as senior adviser.

The competency of his staff continues to be a source of contention.

The following two images have been making the rounds on Twitter.

The one on the left features a meeting with then President Barack Obama. The one on the right, with Donald Trump.

The photograph with Donald Trump appears to be from the 'Winter Situation Room' at Mar-a-Lago, where the President and the other US politicians watched the missile launch to the Syrian base.

Some people present in the Obama image:

  • Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
  • Tony Blinken, National Security Advisor to the Vice President
  • James R Clapper, Director of National Intelligence
  • Robert Gates, Secretary of Defence

Some people present in the Trump image:

  • Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner
  • Treasury Secretary and Hedge Fund manager Steven Mnuchin
  • Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross
  • Gary Cohen, Director of National Economic Council

The implications got people talking...
