Iraqi pilots accidentally delivered aid to Isis

Iraqi pilots accidentally delivered food, water and ammunition to Isis militants instead of those on their own side.

That's according to Hakim Al-Zamili, an Iraqi politician and member of the security and defence committee, who told NBC news that "some pilots, instead of dropping these supplies over the area of the Iraqi army, threw it over the area that is controlled by Isis [also known as Islamic State] fighters".

He went on: “Those soldiers were in deadly need of these supplies, but because of the wrong plans of the commanders in the Iraqi army and lack of experience of the pilots, we in a way or another helped Isis fighters to kill our soldiers.”

A second unnamed general confirmed the incident, which reportedly happened on 19 September.

The news came after the Ministry of Defence announced British forces had successfully carried out their first strikes on Isis militants in Iraq.
