Nigel Farage has been scolded on Irish television over recent comments he made in a Cameo video about the Irish Republican Army.
The former leader of UKIP and the Brexit Party appeared on Claire Byrne Live on RTE One on Monday where he tried to stir up talk of Irish nationalism, independence and the Irish also pursuing their own form of Brexit.
The 58-year-old told Byrne: “Five hundred, often very bloody very difficult years until the 1920s — what was the point of it if you’re governed by European Commissioners?
“That’s a debate and it may be too inconvenient for all of you in Dublin, of course.”
Byrne interjected by bringing up the now-infamous video where Farage was hoaxed into showing support for the IRA in a birthday message.

“I think people will be entertained, Nigel, to hear you talking about this,” said Bryne.
“Look, I know that you apologised for the birthday greeting which you delivered in the last couple of days, but I want people to see just how much you know about the history and culture on this island.”
Byrne then plays Farage’s IRA video.

Once the video ended Byrne said to a rather bashful looking Farage: “’Up the RA’, Nigel? I mean I know you said sorry, I know that you get 87 quid, that’s entirely within your rights to do that.
“But come on! Don’t try to lecture the Irish people about the culture and history and precarious nature of peace on this island. You haven’t got a clue.”
Footage of Byrne’s precision takedown of Farage has since been viewed more than 190,000 times on Twitter with many praising how effectively she managed to shut down the Brexiteer and his arguments.

Whether Ireland wants to remain in the European Union is surely up to them and judging by how things have gone for the UK in recent months, they’ll probably be wise not to listen to Mr Farage.
Incidentally, Farage did apologise for saying “up the RA” in the aforementioned Cameo. He told the Daily Mail: “If I saw ‘up the RA’ I would have looked at that as something very innocent, and wouldn’t have even known there was an implication to it.
“A lot of messages that I get are friends sending each other messages with their own little jokes or their own little words which I have to judge - and of course I reject some if they are crude or offensive.”
