2020 Democratic candidate Pete Buttigieg blasted Fox News hosts Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham during a town hall hosted by their employer Fox News.
Despite some Democrats including Elizabeth Warren boycotting network, claiming that it produces right-wing propaganda, the presidential hopeful answered questions from voters in New Hampshire.
Addressing the questions of bias that are frequently levelled against the organisation, Buttigieg didn’t shy away from naming two of its hosts, saying:
I get where that’s coming from especially when you see what goes on with some opinion hosts on this network.
I mean when you’ve got Tucker Carlson saying that immigrants make America dirty. When you’ve got Laura Ingraham comparing detention centres with children in cages to summer camps.
There is a reason why anybody has to swallow hard and think twice before participating in this media ecosystem.
This gamble appeared to pay off, with the young Democrat receiving a standing ovation for his closing statement at the end of the question and answer session.
Though his comments about Carlson and Ingraham come after the Democratic National Committee chair Tom Perez announced earlier this year that the party will deny all requests from Fox News to host the primary debates because “we cannot rely on Fox to host a fair and neutral debate”.
