Scientists have found that getting just the right amount of sleep can help people ward off sickness.

A study of 3,760 people over a seven-year period found that women who slept 7.6 hours per night and men who slept 7.8 hours showed the least chance of taking sick days from work.

Finnish scientists used data compiled by the country's Social Insurance Institution and tracked sleep disturbances, daytime sleepiness and the use of sleeping pills among their participants to find the results.
