Whoopi Goldberg forced to call out Meghan McCain over her 'late-term abortion' statement

Actress Whoopi Goldberg was forced to call out Meghan McCain for a statement that the columnist made about 'late-term abortions' during a debate on the American talk show The View.

During the opening discussion on the show, the women debated Joe Biden who is the clear front runner for the Democratic presidential candidate in the 2020 election.

Biden is seen as something of a centrist to the American public and one area which he has remained on the fence about is abortions, specifically 'the Hyde Amendment', which is a bill that is attempting to block federal funding for abortions.

As the panel debated whether the Democrats position on abortions was too 'far-left' for some voters, McCain, who is the daughter of former Congressman John McCain, told her liberal co-host Joy Behar that she was too far left and that Biden was the only one of the Democratic candidates that she agreed with.

Behar then asked McCain to name a Democratic policy that she objects to and she named the contentious issue of so-called 'late-term abortions.' At this point, Goldberg decided to step-in and correct McCain on her statement which is incorrect.

I want to say something. There is no such thing as ‘late-term abortion.’ There is no such thing!

You cannot do abortions after a certain amount of time unless there is some sort of danger.

I just wanted to clear that up, because people keep saying ‘late-term abortions,’ and it’s not correct. It does not happen.

Goldberg's intervention earned a massive round of applause by the studio audience and the panel quickly returned to talking about Biden.

The late-term abortion debate has been in American news for the last several months but as many have pointed out, it doesn't actually exist as a medical or legal definition as terms like that are considered 'imprecise or misleading.'

It has also been reported by The Daily Beast that the majority of exhibitions are performed within the first 13 weeks of pregnancy, with only 1.3 per cent performed after 21 weeks of gestation.
