On Sunday, a software engineer in Sydney managed to send a message to the personal mobile phone of a member of the Australian government, without any hacking involved.
Justin Simon sent the unsolicited message to attorney-general George Brandis by putting his official government email address into iMessage, the messaging service on Apple devices.
Why Senator Brandis? Because he's trying to push through controversial new laws forcing telecoms companies to store customers' metadata for two years, and making it accessible, without a warrant, by police and intelligence agencies.
BuzzFeed News also managed to send a message in identical fashion to climate change minister Greg Hunt.
Senator Brandis later delinked his address to iMessage. We wonder if any UK politicians might want to do the same thing...
