This is what Stewie from Family Guy actually sounds like

Family Guy has been running for 19 years, and in that time we have grown to know, and later love Peter, his wife Lois, his children and the obnoxious dog, Brian.

Stewie, the baby of the family, is beloved for his tyrannical mind and frequent plots, ranging from matricide to world domination.

In the all-American family, he’s always had a haughty British accent, and viewers ran with it because, well, why not?

However, in the latest episode of Family Guy, Stewie goes to see a therapist (voiced by Sir Ian McKellen), where he laments his life.

He says:

Everything about me is this carefully constructed persona designed to keep people at arm’s length.

And then, the bombshell:

This isn’t even how I really talk.

Stewie proceeds to drop the British accent. What comes out of his mouth is a nasally American drawl.

The accent is nothing more than an affection, an armour to get me through the day; an image I cultivated so I could feel special.

After the therapist tells him he doesn’t “hear a difference” in Stewie’s voice, creator Seth McFarlane - who lends his voice to many of the characters in the show - gives a grand nod to Family Guy patrons, and proceeds to voice Peter, Quagmire and Ryan. He even slips in Roger from American Dad. And all through Stewie.

What a lovely gift to fans.

Family Guy writer Gary Janetti told Entertainment Weekly:

I didn’t know if Seth would go for it. [But] when he read it, it was hilarious, because he instantly read that voice that he does in the episode, which is this normal kid voice, and it’s very disarming.
