Meet the man with the largest nose in the world

A Turkish man has taken nosiness to the next level by being the official record holder for the world’s largest nose.

Turkish man Mehmet Özyürek officially has the longest nose on a living person, according to the Guinness World Records.

Özyürek’s sniffer is 8.8 cm (3.46 in) long from the bridge to the tip.

The 71-year-old appeared on the set of Italian TV show Lo Show dei Record in 2010 to have his schnoz measured.

Although there are plenty of people that might be competition for Özyürek, no one has officially beaten his record yet.

Despite his impressive conker, the largest nose throughout history belonged to an Englishman called Thomas Wedders, according to Guinness World Records.

Wedder, who lived during the 18th century, had a nose measuring a massive 19 cm (7.5 in) long.

Wedder was the member of a “travelling freak circus”, and according to Weird Historian, waxworks of his impressive snout can be seen in Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Odditoriums to this day.

It feels like world records are broken every day, with Guinness recording some impressive feats in recent months.

In August, Viridiana Álvarez Chávez claimed the record for fastest ascent of the top three highest mountains with supplementary oxygen (female). In just a little under two years, the Mexican woman scaled Everest, K2, and Kangchenjunga.

Just recently the world’s oldest female powerlifter, Edith Murway-Traina, celebrated her 100th birthday as she began training again post-pandemic. The great-great-grandmother only started lifting at 91, and now she can deadlift 165 pounds and bench press 65 pounds.

Even if you aren’t blessed with an exceptionally small – or exceptionally large – body part like  Özyürek, Murway-Traina proves it’s never too late to smash a record.
