5 of the best moments from An Audience with Adele - from Alan Carr’s cameo to an emotional reunion

An Audience with Adele aired on ITV last night and there was a star-studded guest list - as well as plenty of tears and laughs along the way - when the musical superstar sang songs from her new album 30 along with some classic tracks such as Rolling In The Deep and Hometown Glory.

Among the A-list celebrities to attend the event at the London Palladium for the ITV pre-recorded special were Idris Elba, Dame Emma Thompson, Stormzy, Emma Watson, Daniel Kaluuya, David Tennant, Gareth Southgate, Graham Norton, Dua Lipa, Samuel L. Jackson and many more.

Throughout the show, members of the audience were able to ask the Adele questions, as viewers got to know the singer better.

Here are some of the best moments from the TV special.

Adele is reunited with her favourite English teacher from school

The night ended up being a pretty emotional one for Adele after the 33-year-old broke down in tears when she was reunited with her old English teacher.

Dame Emma Thompson had asked Adele who she had been inspired by in her life.

Adele told the audience that Ms McDonald from Chestnut Grove School in Balham - the school she attended before she moved to the prestigious Brit School as a teenager - had inspired her love for English.

“She left in year eight but she got me really into literature, I’ve always been obsessed with English and obviously now I write lyrics,” she explained.

“But she also did street dance, I was too scared to go in, but like in the canteen they used to do these dances and stuff like that.

“She was so bloody cool, so engaging, and she really made us care, and we knew that she cared about us and stuff like that.

“She used to have all these gold bracelets and gold rings.

“She was bloody cool and so relatable and likeable, that I really looked forward to my English lessons.”

Thompson then took Adele by surprise as she invited Ms McDonald onto the stage. Taken aback, Adele tearfully embraced her old teacher as the audience cheered on.

Viewers loved seeing the emotional reunion and the impact teachers can have on their students.

Alan Carr entertains the audience

After Adele’s tearful reunion, she called on the assistance of celeb pal Alan Carr to entertain the audience while she had her makeup fixed - and he did not disappoint.

Carr belted out a rendition of Adele’s version of Make You Feel My Love, and the audience erupted into laughter as the comedian got the crowd to sing along with him.

It’s safe to say viewers at home loved the impromptu entertainment and added that it was a true example of how Brits do culture:

Everyone’s talking about Dame Emma Thompson’s dance moves

During the special, cameras would pan the audience to show how the audience of A-list celebs were reacting to Adele, and everyone was loving Dame Emma Thompson’s dance moves as she tried to get those around her to join in with her.

Daniel Kaluuya’s stunned reaction at Adele wanting to collaborate with him

When it was England football manager Gareth Southgate’s turn to ask the singer a question, Adele told him: “I loved watching you this summer. It was one of the best.”

He replied: “Thank you for your support. We saw the videos of you getting quite into it.”

He then questioned who, of all the celebrities in the room, she would most like to collaborate with, Adele chose actor Daniel Kaluuya.

She said: “Obviously I’m not an actress, but I just think that you are the greatest actor.

“I really, really do. I am mesmerised by you and your work.”

The camera then panned on a stunned Kaluuya who clearly was expected to be mentioned by Adele, and viewers loved his wholesome reaction.

Adele knocking back a cup of Rosie Lee

At one point in the show, Adele can be seen sipping a mug of tea as she performed her songs and fans couldn’t help but point out how British this was of her.
