Boris Johnson is being compared to Donald Trump (again) after his latest altercation with a reporter

Boris Johnson got his Donald Trump on again on Sunday by banning Channel 4 reporter Michael Crick from a Vote Leave rally.

Crick took to Twitter to say that he'd been informed by Johnson's camp that he couldn't attend the London event because he "took the piss" on previous occasions.

There is some truth to that: Crick has doorstepped an unawares Johnson in the past, and heckled the former mayor of London into singing at a Brexit event last month.

But Johnson has singled the veteran reporter out too - notably on an occasion in April when he asked supporters to interrupt Crick's live broadcast.

But banning reporters? Smacks of another blond-haired populist to us.

And we're not the only ones to notice that barring a journalist from an event because he previously "took the piss" doesn't exactly tally with Johnson's stance on other freedom of speech issues.

For example, in April Johnson condemned German chancellor Angela Merkel for kow-towing to Turkey's Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan over a German satirist's verbal attacks on the authoritarian president.

He also blamed it on the EU.

Awkward.
