US president Donald Trump continues to face widespread condemnation over remarks made about the late film director Rob Reiner, who was found dead along with his wife Michele on Sunday, with son Nick Reiner arrested and booked for murder.
What began as criticism over a post by the Republican on Truth Social – in which he claimed the When Harry Met Sally director had a “raging obsession” with him and “Trump Derangement Syndrome” – escalated on Monday, when he doubled down during a White House press conference.
After a reporter asked him if he stands by his Truth Social post despite criticism from fellow Republicans, Trump replied: “Well, I wasn’t a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump was concerned.
“I think he hurt himself career-wise. He became like a deranged person – Trump Derangement Syndrome.
“So I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all, in any way, shape or form. I thought he was very bad for our country.”
And in addition to this sparking renewed criticism of the convicted felon’s comments about a man who had died, X/Twitter users also questioned why he was appearing to refer to himself in the third person:

Trump has been condemned by celebrities and politicians alike over his comments about Reiner, with actor Josh Gad branding him a “f***ing psychopath” and California governor Gavin Newsom calling him a “sick man”.
