We’re no strangers to love, but we’re also no strangers to Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg being an absolute legend and trolling members of the public from time to time.
Her latest targets were a crowd in the capital of Stockholm attending a Climate Live concert, one of several gigs taking place around the world to “unite people and reach the majority who aren’t currently engaged in the [climate] crisis”.
And Sweden’s event boasted quite the line-up, too, with folk band First Aid Kit and Eurovision winner Loreen among those who performed.
Speaking of Eurovision, Thunberg’s mother is Malena Emman, who represented the Scandinavian country in the contest back in 2009.
Now, it seems like Greta is tapping in to her family’s musical side, as she also sang and danced to “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley as the familiar melody blasted out the speakers.

It started off innocent enough, as Thunberg looked set to deliver another profound and important message about the crisis facing our planet, but then she said the familiar words: “We’re no strangers to love…”
The crowd immediately cheered and cottoned on to the reference, knowing full well that this isn’t their first environmentally friendly rodeo when it comes to a Rickroll.
“You know the rules, and so do I,” chipped in a fellow activist on stage, before the pair burst into song and dance to the Eighties classic.
Later in the clip - first posted on Climate Live’s official TikTok account - the two campaigners could be seen rushing off stage after their rendition, cuddling and laughing after their epic troll.
According to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, it was her first time singing to a crowd.
“At the end of the day, we are just teenagers fooling around with each other, not just the angry kids the media often portrays us as,” she told the outlet.
Though it may be the first time she’s performed live, it certainly isn’t the first time she’s deployed the good ol’ Rickroll as her troll of choice.
On April Fools’ Day this year, she decided to tweet out that she had created a YouTube video where she “[talks] about some small things we ALL can and should do to stop the climate crisis”, only for it to link to Astley’s hit single.
This latest Rickroll has also received praise from fans worldwide:
The one thing we hope Thunberg never gives up is the trolling, as we’re very much here for it.
