Ryan Reynolds joked that he was ‘sick of media exploiting past relationships’ with Betty White

Ryan Reynolds has replied to Betty White’s jokey claim that he has a “thing” for her - and true to form his response did not disappoint.

Update: Reynolds’ message was posted before White passed away aged 99 on December 31st 2021.

White recently mentioned the Deadpool star in an interview with PEOPLE where she spoke about their ‘relationship’.

The Golden Girls actress was due to turn 100 next month said “I’ve heard Ryan can’t get over his thing for me.”

Reynolds would have been disappointed to hear that White was gifted a life-sized cutout of 85-year-old Robert Redford, who she called “the one” in the interview, for her 99th birthday this year. Redford has since said that he had a ‘crush’ on her too.

After White commented on Reynolds, the 45-year-old decided to respond by sharing a screenshot of the veteran actor’s PEOPLE interview on Twitter and adding: “I’m absolutely sick of the media exploiting past relationships just to drive clicks.”

Fans of the two A-listers couldn’t get enough of the continuous banter between the pair.

The duo first met as co-star on the set of the 2009 rom-com The Proposal which also stars Sandra Bullock. White played Reynolds’ grandmother Annie (or otherwise known as “Gammy”).

In a statement to PEOPLE, Reynolds has nothing but positive and complimentary words to say about his former co-star (and “ex-girlfriend”), and said he had been a fan of hers ‘for as long as I can remember.’

“I heard that scripts for Golden Girls were only 35 pages, which makes sense because so many of the laughs come from Betty simply looking at her castmates,’ he explained.

According to Reynolds, White is “a typical Capricorn. Sleeps all day. Out all night boozing and snacking on men.”

This isn’t the first time Reynolds has bantered with White online, since in 2019 he hilariously referred to her as his “ex-girlfriend” when wishing her a Happy 97th Birthday.

“I don’t usually post about ex-girlfriends. But Betty’s special. Happy Birthday to the one and only Betty White,” Reynolds wrote.

After it was announced that White had died Reynolds later posted a tribute to the star. The Canadian actor wrote: “The world looks different now. She was great at defying expectation. She managed to grow very old and somehow, not old enough. We’ll miss you, Betty. Now you know the secret.”
