Donald Trump has, in classic Donald Trump style, shared an Easter message to his Twitter followers that has backfired on the president badly.

Taking to the social media site on Easter Sunday, Trump wrote:

Happy Easter! I have never been happier or more content because your Country is doing so well, with an Economy that is the talk of the World and may be stronger than it has ever been before. Have a great day!

Right, so now Easter Sunday, which is the most important day in the Christian calendar, which commemorates the day that Jesus Christ rose from the dead, is about, well, money and the economy?

Needless to say, many people on Twitter called out the president for his somewhat off-piste Easter message.

Some thought the sentiment was, how can we put this politely, 'narcissistic'?

Not even a tiny reference to Jesus? Not one?

Also, what exactly does the economy have to do with Easter? Nope, us neither.

And, despite Trump's continuous claims that he's a Christian, some doubted his credentials.

Of course, however, some people were supportive of the president's Easter message.

Most seemed to think the message was 'pathetic'.

To top it off, according to a January 2019 Bloomberg report, measured by 14 gauges of economic activity and financial performance, the US economy under Donald Trump is not doing as well as it did under all four of the Republican presidents, and three of the Democrat presidents who have occupied the White House since 1976.

Well, that's pretty awkward, isn't it Mr Trump?
