When you're trying to cut back and save a little money, a pricey store-bought coffee is usually the first thing to go.
But one barista is now claiming that one of his customers has upped the life hack ante. Apparently, he's figured out how to get a free Starbucks. Every. Single. Day.
This story was posted on Kitchenetteby Brad Halsey, in a series of stories about the worst of the worst customers in the food industry. He writes that a man comes into his Starbucks every day for a free drink.
There is a man who comes to my Starbucks every single day and orders the most horrible drink in an infuriating way. He purchased 365 Starbucks cards and registered every one of them online with a different birthday so that he gets a “free birthday drink” EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR.
And not just your run-of-the-mill plain filter, but a no-holds-barred, bells and whistles extravaganza of extra cream and vanilla shots.
According to the Starbucks card terms and conditions, while you may purchase as many cards as you like and register all of them for the rewards schemes (which include a birthday drink), “you may only have one (1) account that is personal to you”.
So it's not entirely clear whether this genius hack is possible, let alone permitted. But it's not clear that it's NOT, either.
Halsey writes that he wouldn't mind the man taking advantage of the seemingly obvious flaw in the system, if it weren't for the fact that the man pretends his app is malfunctioning and it “magically gives him the same free birthday drink every day.”
He also points out: "If he was a nice guy, I might not be so irritated. But he’s not a nice guy."
