William and Kate’s 10-year wedding anniversary in 10 pictures

Prince William and Kate Middleton are celebrating 10 years of married life. And what a 10 years it’s been.

Since that fairytale wedding (and endless talk of Pippa’s bum), the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have become parents to three children, faced the trials and tribulations of Megxit, and bid farewell to the family’s patriarch, Prince Philip.

They released two beaming portraits on Thursday to show that, despite it all – or perhaps because of it – they are closer and stronger than ever.

So as they mark the milestone – which, traditionally is recognised with the not-so-glamorous gift of tin – we take a look back at some of the key moments of their first decade together as husband and wife.

And, of course, we wish them both a very Happy Anniversary.

Year 1 (2011-2012)

We begin with a look at their internationally-celebrated wedding day.

Here, William and Catherine look on at the adoring crowds following their marriage at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011.

The service was led by the Archbishop of Canterbury and attended by 1900 guests, including foreign royal family members and heads of state.

Thousands of well-wishers from across the world also flocked to London to witness the spectacle and pageantry.

Year 2 (2012-2013)

This photo shows Kate and William during day six of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The loved-up royals are clearly still in the honeymoon phase, and aren’t afraid to goof around.

Year 3 (2012-2013)

The delighted couple show off their firstborn to the world, sanding outside the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London on July 23, 2013.

Prince George, now seven years old, is directly in line to inherit the throne after his grandfather Charles and dad.

Year 4 (2013- 2014)

Who could forget that William and Kate met during their student days up in Scotland?

Here they are arriving at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York to attend the St Andrews 600th Anniversary Dinner December.

The fundraising event was created to support scholarships and bursaries for students from under-privileged communities and investment in the university’s faculties.

Year 5 (2015-2016)

The duke and duchess welcome their second child into the world on May 2, 2015.

Princess Charlotte was, like her brother, born in the Lido Wing of St Mary’s hospital. She was a fraction smaller, weighing 8lbs 3oz.

Year 6 ( 2016-2017)

In happier times for the siblings, William, Prince Harry announce their new campaign Heads Together, with the aim of changing the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

Year 7 (2017-2018)

The Duke of Cambridge is sprayed with water by a competitor as Kate hands out water to runners during the 2017 London Marathon.

Again, it’s nice to see the royals not taking themselves too seriously.

Year 8 (2018 - 2019)

And then there were three.

Kate cradles their newborn son outside St Mary’s Hospital on April 23, 2018, as onlookers get a first glimpse of Prince Louis.

Year 9 (2019 - 2020)

This now infamous image shows the Duke and Duchess of Sussex following sombrely behind the Cambridges at the annual Commonwealth Service in London on March 9, 2020.

This was to be Meghan and Harry’s final public engagement before they officially stepped down as senior royals.

Year 10 (2020 - 2021)

These two new snaps (which we’ve merged into one picture), were taken at Kensington Palace and released on Thursday, April 29, to mark the couple’s 10-year triumph.

The pair look relaxed despite all the twists and turns of the past decade, suggesting they’re ready to take on whatever comes next.

And with the Queen edging ever-closer to her centenary, the next 10 years certainly promise to be eventful.
