Wales overtook England in the Fifa world rankings for the first time yesterday, holding on to 9th position while England fell to 10th.
Wales also beat Cyprus on Thursday night to move within three points of qualifying for Euro 2016, thanks to a late goal from Gareth Bale.
One of the people following the team in Nicosia was Welsh comedian and Xfm host Elis James.
He celebrated Bale’s goal like this:
In addition he received a tweet from Tim Walklate of BBC Radio Four, asking him if he wished to discuss the match and Wales leapfrogging England in the rankings.
His frank reply has been described as the best Twitter conversation about sport ever:
Meanwhile, sports broacaster Jake Humphries also had his say on the rankings:
Wales have also risen to 5th in the world rugby rankings, ahead of England (6th) before the Rugby World Cup 2015 begins on 18 September.
In addition, in July it was announced that the 2017 Uefa Champions League and Women's Champion's League finals will be hosted in Cardiff, at the Millenium Stadium.
What a time to be a fan of Welsh sport.
