The Simpsons fans believe show predicted Barbie movie hysteria in 1994

Barbie has taken over the internet, and fans of The Simpsons are convinced the show predicted the hysteria way back in 1994.

In the episode, titled 'Lisa vs Malibu Stacy', Lisa Simpson takes a stand against a new toy doll craze, because she's unhappy with the harmful stereotypes the doll portrays when it speaks.

"Thought it was unusual to spend 28 minutes reporting about a doll, this reporter found it impossible to stop talking", the news anchor says.

Fans believe it hinted at Greta Gerwig's adaption, which is thought to be a much more 'feminist' adaption of the doll we're used to seeing.
